Work with these handy Internet tools
CyberKit offers a variety of handy Internet tools. You can use Ping to verify whether a host is currently available. It sends a small message to the destination host, and all hosts are supposed to bounce the message back. If CyberKit receives the response, you know that the host is up and running. TraceRoute shows you the route your connection takes. When you connect to a host, it's almost never a direct connection -- you'll usually pass through several different hosts before you arrive at your destination. TraceRoute will show you all the hosts along the way. Finger is used to retrieve information about a user on a specific host. Whois is similar to Finger, but is used with NIC servers, which provide large databases of users and hosts worldwide. Name Server LookUp is used to resolve a hostname or IP address and will show you possible aliases as well. You can also use CyberKit to retrieve a "quote of the day," synchronize your system clock, and scan your Winsock database for available services and protocols. Finally, you can use this versatile program to automatically check multiple email accounts for new messages. This particular function seems like a work in progress. You can schedule the email checks at regular intervals and receive custom notification, but there is no way to keep the program in the system tray. CyberKit is very easy to use, well documented, and -- best of all -- free!
